VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:

OWNER HISTORY:  The current owner bought this rust-free Arizona truck in 1995 and commenced a very thorough and complete restoration.  It was completely disassembled.  The chassis and suspension parts were cleaned, stripped, sandblasted and repainted.  Every component was either replaced or restored to good working condition.  It was repainted the original Torch Red color.  The original 272CI V8 engine was worn beyond repair, so a period correct 292CI V8 was found, rebuilt, and installed along with the rebuilt original transmission.  All new brake lines and brakes were installed.  A new wiring harness and a trip to the upholstery shop for a fresh original-style interior completed the project in 1996.  Over $19,000 was spent on this restoration 10 years ago (receipts included).  Since then it has only been driven 200 miles!  He obviously doesn’t have the time to enjoy this beauty so it is time for a new owner.  All our shop had to do was adjust the carburetor, tighten some fittings, check the oil, and top up the fluids.  It starts easily, idles quietly and is all ready to go.  (See Condition Section)

MARQUE HISTORY:  Ford celebrated its golden anniversary with a new truck in 1953.  The 1953 -1956 Ford F100 Pickup styling was clean and modern, but it had more.  It looked like a truck: tough, solid, practical, and ruggedly handsome.   Helping the F100’s appeal was a well-designed cab with comfortable driving position and convenient controls.  A more refined wrap around windshield was introduced in 1956 replacing the slanted front windshield pillars.  The front grille and parking light assemblies are unique to the 1956 models along with the dash gauge area. 1956 also saw a new 12 volt electrical system and an electric windshield wiper. There were 137,581 short bed F100s produced in 1956.

INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE:  An album of restoration photos.  Receipts for the restoration.  A fuel receipt from Tucson , Arizona dated 10/12/80 (found in the ashtray)!

VEHICLE CONDITION:

We do a complete 100 point mechanical and cosmetic inspection to each vehicle before listing it for sale.  There are always items that do not show up in photos that need to be mentioned so the new owner has no surprises.  A copy of this inspection is available by fax.

You can bid with confidence knowing we have disclosed everything we have found wrong with the vehicle.  Some people say I am too fussy, but we do the same type of inspection on vehicles we are purchasing for our Museum collection.  I feel it is only fair the buyer knows everything that is not perfect with the vehicle.

I feel so confident in our condition description that if you are not happy with the vehicle (or feel we have misrepresented it) when you come to pick it up we will refund your money.  Once it leaves our property however, this refund offer is withdrawn.

INTERIOR:  The interior has been completely restored to original specifications.  The rubber floor mat is nice with no tears.  The door panels and headliner are like new along with the door/window handles.  The dash was repainted.  All the proper dash knobs are there.  There is an operating heater, but no defrost ducting.

EXTERIOR:  The paint was done professionally, but not to “show” standards.  It is nice and glossy and looks great from 5’ away.  A closer inspection will disclose some dirt, light scratches, underlying sanding marks, and a few runs.  The doors and hood color are off just a shade from the rest of the body.  The wood bed is very nice with the proper stainless strips.  There is no bondo or heavy filler, evidence of a dry, rust free Arizona vehicle.

CHROME/TRIM:  The chrome is in nice condition.  The emblems and rearview mirrors are like new.  The front grill is nice and shiny but showing some light scratches and a few little dents.

WHEELS/TIRES:  The 6.00X16 Allstate bias ply tires look fine with lots of tread, but are old and cracked.  They should be replaced if it is going to be driven much.  A set of radial tires would be the way to go, as these old vehicles ride and drive much better with radials.  The “Ford” hubcaps are in nice condition, with only one of them showing some dents.  The stainless trim rings are nice and dress up the black painted wheels.

GAUGES/INSTRUMENTS/CONTROLS:  The fuel gauge, speedometer, odometer, oil/battery warning lights all are operating.  The temp gauge and cigar lighter are not.  The horn works fine.  NOTE: The fuel gauge works, but typical of the era it is not very accurate (don’t let it get below ¼ on the gauge).

DRIVE TRAIN:  The rebuilt engine starts easily, idles smooth and quiet.  Once warmed up, it accelerates nicely and runs at speed with no problems.  The 2-speed automatic transmission shifts fine.  When driving down the road there is some vibration and road noise from the old tires. There are some creaks and groans as expected in an old pickup truck.

BRAKES:  New front shoes have just been installed.  The rebuilt brake system stops the truck with no problem.  The emergency brake works fine.

STEERING:  It turns and steers good but the steering wheel is not centered.

LIGHTS:  The headlights only work on low beam as there is no power to the high beam circuit. The turn signals operate, but do not cancel on their own.  The parking lights, brake lights, and license plate lights are all OK.  The tail light lenses have a neat “Ford” logo embossed on them.

UNDERHOOD:  All fluids have been topped up and are in good condition.  The engine compartment was nicely restored, but is showing some scratches and a little wear over the last 12 years.

UNDERNEATH:  This truck is in freshly restored condition underneath (see photos).  There is a slight oil leak from the rear main seal.  There is no spare tire.
